Mrs. Schymick's Tips for Science Success:
Things to do daily:
Preparing for the Check for Understanding:
We are Here to Help
- Each day I post a learning target. It’s posted in class and on my Daily Agenda on my website. Something you could do at home each day is ask your child to address the target. Have him/her explain to you what he knows about it. Your child should be able to use examples from class as evidence to support their understanding of the learning target. Each assignment is posted on my website. Have them connect the assignment back to the learning target.
- Watch the video links from the daily agenda at home and discuss what is happening in the videos. Many times I even include the questions on my website that we went over. If there aren’t any questions, make connections back to the learning target.
- Attempt to connect the learning from that day to the unit challenge.
Preparing for the Check for Understanding:
- Near the end of a lesson (which takes roughly 4-6 days), students have to complete a summary table which summarizes what was learned. We go over this in class. It contains the answer for the learning target. I post the key on my website after we go over it.
- Also at the end of the lesson, as a class we compose a list of “Gotta Haves”. What this means is the scientific explanation that addresses the learning target has “gotta have”… This is also directly connected to the summary table row C. This is recorded in the ISN and also posted on the website.
- Connect the learning from the lesson to the unit challenge.
